I was born in the UK and lived in South Africa for sixteen years before moving to my current home in Sydney, Australia. My travels throughout the continent of Africa and extended sojourns into the Australian Outback have been inspirational for my work.

I describe myself as an intuitive abstract artist and my favourite medium is acrylics. The paint is dabbed and flecked spontaneously to achieve a composition infused with movement.  By using sweeping brush strokes and filling my canvases with abstract forms amid fields of often intense colour I tempt the viewer’s eye to travel through the work before resting on a certain spot, a highlight perhaps, or a dab of pure colour.

My work reflect my emotional response to the natural world and each canvas shows a moment in time, highlighting the treatment of light.  The most recent works feature perspectives on our rapidly changing environment. I hope to offer a view on what we are losing, as well as the grandeur of what we might cherish as we focus on sustainability. My work has been characterised as art with a moral code.  While the subject may not be apparent to some, l want to leave my work open to the imagination of the viewers and stimulate their senses. Each painting has a life of it’s own.  I try to let it come through.

For the most part I prefer to leave my work untitled as labelling a work might inhibit a viewer’s freedom to explore and discover their own responses.  Titles given to works are arbitrary, but necessary for gallery exhibitions and websites.

My work has been shown in exhibitions in

Sydney, Johannesburg South Africa, and New York.
